Governor Sisolak is committed to ensuring every family in every corner of the State has access to high-quality, affordable child care.

Research shows quality child care positively affects children’s development, and better positions parents to enter and re-enter the workforce.

Under Governor Sisolak’s leadership, Nevada made significant strides in alleviating the burden of child care for families. Recent announcements in the State of the State showcase the governor’s continued commitment to lowering the costs of child care, supporting child care facilities and employees, and strengthening Nevada’s workforce.

During the SOTS speech, Governor Sisolak announced an additional investment of $160 million federal funds to help lower costs for parents and support Nevada’s childcare providers. These dollars will help the state double the number of families that are provided financial assistance for childcare and increase the support provided. This is in addition to more than $200 million already invested by the Sisolak Administration.

During his first term, Governor Sisolak:

●       Strengthened Nevada Ready!, the state pre-k program, by signing into law legislation giving $19 million in funding to sustain the program and authorizing new standards to ensure Nevada’s children will be safe, healthy, and thriving during their early years of life.

●       Invested over $200 million in child care providers, nearly $13 million for child care workforce recruitment, and over $4 million for family support resources. These investments worked to ensure that our childcare providers didn’t go under during tough times. It saved Nevada families more than $50 million in child care costs, assisted providers with operational costs, and provided direct financial support to child care workers.

●       Granted over $200,000 in funding to Baby’s Bounty, a nonprofit group that helps deliver diapers and other essential baby items to families. That money will come from Nevada’s $30 million community recovery grant program, which is funded by federal COVID relief dollars.

Affordable, accessible child care ensures the next generation of Nevadans will be successful and supports parents, our workforce, and the economy.

Governor Sisolak’s investments in child care will save our parents money, keep our state moving forward, and make us a competitive destination for new families and businesses.
