Project Overview

The Pantry’s services were originally designed to support the needs of those who may have been affected by financial or adverse circumstances that increase risk of food insecurity over a decade ago. With the onset of the pandemic, UNLV students, staff, and faculty were impacted by many reductions to salaries as well as furloughs, which increased food insecurity and financial insecurity resulting in an increased need for Pantry services. As a result of the ongoing pandemic, additional needs for clients outside of the UNLV campus are being addressed with new expansion of services to include a mobile version of the pantry serving food to support up to 200 families impacted by the pandemic in addition to utilizing a food delivery service for those with transportation limitations. The Pantry is unique as it attends to specific nutritional needs in conjunction with USDA MyPlate and Dietary Guidelines for Americans, American Diabetes Association, American Heart Association, and Supporting Wellness at Pantries (SWAP).
