The Eddy House
Project Overview
The global pandemic amplified the already poor graduation rates, low employment rates, high acuity of mental health needs, high substance abuse, and widespread abuse our Transitional Aged Youth face every day. Eddy House's proposal centers on expanding select programs which will intervene and break the cycle of homelessness and poverty for these youth. Effective intervention and targeted services can prevent homeless youth from becoming chronically homeless adults. In addition to assisting youth who have no other place to turn, preventing chronic adult homelessness spares the local jurisdictions, hospitals and human-service providers from the ongoing costs incurred by repeated "revolving door" utilization of these limited resources. Femme, Transgender, Women, and non-binary individuals between the ages of 18-24 who are without a home face a systemic lack of resources combined with heightened risks for suicide, becoming victims of violence, and other grave outcomes. Eddy House proposes a Femme, Trans, Women, &. Non-Binary Transitional Living Home (FTWTL Home) for approximately six to ten individuals for stays of up to two years to empower women and other vulnerable individuals to achieve independence through a supported residential program. The FTWTL Home is a women's adult communal sober living environment to alleviate the difficulties vulnerable individuals experiencing homelessness face when pursuing a more stable, healthy, and independent life. This home would be the first and only transitional living home that is focused specifically on helping women and other vulnerable TAY within the Reno area and it would serve as an entry way toward independence in the community for these youth.
