Special Olympics Nevada
Project Overview
The “Strong Minds Curriculum was created by Special Olympics North America in partnership with the CDC and a collaborative of mental health professionals around the U.S. SONV would like to modify some of the program curriculum so it can be integrated in SONV’s Champion Schools program. Additions will include wrap-around services for teachers, students and parents to recognize triggers in students that may be at risk of engaging in self-harming behavior.
Additionally, the program will provide students with outlets on how to cope with stress. SONV will target middle school and high schools to pilot this new program as this is the age range where students are more at risk to engage in self-harming behavior. The program will also monitor how fitness and nutrition can assist in mitigating self-harming behaviors in students with and without disabilities and foster inclusion in Nevada schools.
