Project Overview

RSVP is requesting funding to help older adults living in Nevada’s 15 rural counties, including Carson City, with COVID-19 emergency response services.  The funding will be used to implement two programs to address elder social isolation and elder abuse, which has seen a raise during the pandemic.

This funding will allow us address the needs of our clients by adding services in new and effective ways to meet the needs of homebound older adults and help ensure their health, safety, and quality of life.

RSVP will provide its elder clients who are vulnerable and social isolating during the COVID-19 pandemic with lifesaving service activities.  COVID-19 Emergency Response funding will ensure that RSVP has the resource capacity to deliver essential and expanded services and help keep our clients safe, healthy, in their own homes, and living independently.

RSVP’s service delivery model delivered by volunteers and project staff will ensure the health and safety of older adults and other vulnerable populations through the following activities: RSVP Programs include: (1) Home Companions spend time with clients and provide emotional support; (2) Homemakers provide housekeeping; (3) Respite volunteers provide  24/7 caregivers with regular breaks, companionship and safety for the care recipient in their home;  (4) Escorted Transportation provides critical trips to medical appointments and pick up prescriptions or groceries; (5) CARE Law attorney provides pro bono legal services for low-income seniors; (6) Lifeline provides a personal emergency response telephone system; (7) Resistance Exercise Training teaches seniors how to improve their mobility and gain muscle mass and strength; (8) Senior Farmer’s Market Nutrition provides free coupons for fresh fruits and vegetables to low-income seniors; (9) Veterans Volunteers in Partnership (VIP) Program assists Veterans to access Veterans resources and support; suicide prevention/awareness resources; and volunteer opportunities; 10) Volunteer Stations Program - volunteers serve in diverse activities to address community needs through a variety of services with government agencies and community non-profits.
