Legal Aid Center of Southern Nevada
Project Overview
This program provides equity-focused services to students with disabilities, especially those in the foster care and juvenile delinquency system, as well as children from families living in poverty. When a student fails to have the resources they need, the student ends up falling significantly behind in their education. When that happens during a pandemic, there’s little hope of gaining lost ground. We obtain appropriate educational services, including testing for undiagnosed conditions, accommodations, advocacy at Individualized Education Plan (IEP) meetings, and in due process hearings, if necessary. We measure performance by the number of clients who improve from failing in school to passing, graduating high school, and even attending college, making a communitywide impact. Due to a lack of funding, we only serve a fraction of those who request help.
