Iron Sharpens Iron
Project Overview
Iron Sharpens Iron Mentoring program offers a bilingual (English and Spanish) 12-week group mentoring intervention between adult volunteer mentors and youth who lack a positive adult relationship. This relationship exposes at-risk youth to new opportunities for learning and growth, emphasizing positive youth development, academic achievement, health and wellness, prevention services, and other critical areas such as social skills, emotion identification, and problem-solving. Included are goal achievement, impulse control, anger, and conflict management skills during this period. A group of 10 to 12 youth of similar age, development, and two volunteer mentors meet once a week for two and one-half hours. The ISIM mentoring sessions are all led by facilitators that have been certified by an evidenced- based curriculum, One Circle Foundation (The Council for Boys and Young Men and Girls Circle).
